It's being reported as a 7.7 at just 6 miles deep - That's going to be bad without the tsunami

Seen it last night, a lot of damage, think reviews of architecture and engineering need urgent reeviews

Fred

The BBC are now reporting 30 dead but it's only been light for a few hours and there is still going to be a lot of searching in progress

I read the Indonesian authorities lifted the tsunami warning before it hit, don’t know how accurate that is but consistent across many news channels, someone will be getting jailed fingers crossed if true

That was the news but there's no confirmation at this point so there's still room for error

Almost 50 people have been confirmed dead after a strong tsunami triggered by a magnitude 7.5 earthquake hit a coastal Indonesian city on Friday.

Waves of up to 2m (6.6ft) high swept through Palu on Sulawesi island.

Video on social media shows people screaming and fleeing in panic and a mosque amongst the buildings damaged.

"We have not received comprehensive reports yet because communications are cut. Many bodies were found along the shoreline because of the tsunami, but the numbers are still unknown," Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, a spokesman for the agency, told Reuters.

Nugroho said the quake intensity was much higher in the fishing town of Donggala, which was closer to the epicenter, and they expect the damage there to be much worse, but have not been able to establish communications.

I suspect the numbers of dead and injured are going to be a lot worse than those we already know about.

At least 832 people were killed in the devastating earthquake and tsunami that hit the Indonesian island of Sulawesi, the national disaster agency says.

It added that the affected area was bigger than initially thought.

Many people were reported trapped in the rubble of buildings that collapsed in Friday's 7.5-magnitude earthquake, agency spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho told a news conference.
