Taking meat into bali

Australia, Indonesia, and most of the world have much the same rules.
They were right to stop you.

Well there you go. I had read somewhere else it was ok if packaged correctly and frozen. Now I know . Thanks for that.

I think it is illegal to take meat into most countries, or maybe I've been watching too much border security on tv...

This all boils down (no pun intended) to a roll of the dice. 

I've been lucky to get friends to bring in frozen rib eye steaks for me from the states fresh from the butcher and only wrapped in butcher's wrap and packed in dry ice without too much of a problem, but not without some "negotiating."   

A local Ozzie friend of mine almost always brings back to Bali a few kangaroo tails, also not sealed in plastic, and also no problem. 

That all being said, these days quality meats are readily available, and there are a couple of outstanding Expat German butchers living here as well.

Those German butchers that live on Bali...really nice sausages?  OMG!  Utterly FABULOUS!   

And btw, don't be shy to order your own whole babi guling for a family feast either.

Yum, Im trying to watch my weight ,but I'm hungry just thinking about it! Yes my inlaws put on a whole Babi guling for my 40th , what a amazing taste . Soo nice!  Can't wait until December . We are all missing the flavours Bali offers ( local) . I absolutely love going to the Jimbaran fish markets and picking my seafood and having it cooked there to take home . Bakar style 😀  can't beat it

If I were you, just do not declare it, as the max fine will be confiscation anyway. Most of the time if you have good negotiation skill, they will let you go anyway and worst asking for small money.

we have here in Jawa Barat so many wild boars ( babi celengs ) that they smuggling it into the markets in Jakarta to make the famous baso meatballs hah, so its is illegal to import even in Jakarta because there are no certificates of health involved I would care less about the haram thing, wild boar is delicious.
so got a friend who hunts the celengs, and since no one wants them ( legally ) he ships it overnight to me with icepacks, they arrive in the morning still cold they are getting a plagque there destrotrying to crops, because don't have anyone who hunts them, only humans, there are multiplying like rats, well I don't mind, they eat all kind of veggie things only In the wild, I made a ham out of one piece of it, and bacon, boy that was okay believe me.

I'm very confused.  Is there a rule about bringing meat/ pork products into Indonesia?  I see on the customs form it must be declared, but I do not see anywhere saying it is not allowed.  I want to bring a large salami to a friend.  Any advice?  Should it be packaged a certain way?  I have been searching online for an hour and this thread is the only mention of someone having it confiscated.  And no, all countries do NOT have the same rules!

Fresh food is pretty much banned as the potential for problems is so great.
That applies everywhere I've ever travelled, and I know it applies in many other countries as well.

It being on there suggests there is a potential for an issue, but why not just buy it at one of the many outlets in Jakarta that sell that sort of stuff?

No, it doesn't have meat -- that's what I'm saying.  It only says fruit which carry bugs.  If it wasn't allowed wouldn't it be on the books somewhere?   I was surprised when my friend asked me to bring it, but she says they do it all the time and there is no law against it.  (She's lived in Bali for 10 years)

As I wrote in my post dating from last year, we've had fresh meat brought in for us, (frozen of course), and it was only a slight problem, easily resolved.

There is nothing very consistent about customs, so it can be a hit or miss sort of thing.   If it's well wrapped and sealed your chances will be better.

I have and still do take my own steak, bacon, sausages, cheese and dips. I freeze all the meat into separate bundles and declare what I have at the airport.  They ask me how many kilos I have and  have a quick look and off we go to the villa.  It hasn't been an issue

Since the foot n mouth out break in bali, I been told by customs in Indonesia that I need to down load and fill out a form online 2 days before I fly to prove the meat has been packaged professionally.  I also bring in large rolls of scotch fillet every month. 

Can anyone locate the form online to fill out for bringing meat into bali?
