A document, believed to be a draft amendment to the MPR regulation, was circulating over the weekend.

Several lawmakers who requested anonymity due to the sensitivity of the issue confirmed the validity of the document.

The draft contains revisions to articles 99, 105, 110 and 112, which detail the necessary procedures to impeach a president upon the recommendation of the House.

Prabowo's Coalition Proposes Presidential Election to be Revoked

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - After eliminating the direct local election, the Merah Putih Coalition comes up with another discourse to return presidential election to the People’s Council (MPR). Secretary General of the National Mandate Party (PAN) Herman Kadir said that presidential election has torn apart the society.

“If direct presidential election only causes a stir in the society, I think it should be revoked,” said Herman.

Herman also notably said that direct election is the "product" of the West. He believed that democracy in Indonesia is bestowed upon the parliament. ”If necessary, presidential election is conducted by MPR,” he said.

Hayono Isman from Democrat Faction said that re-election through MPR is plausible. “If Merah Putih coalition has ruled DPRD and Regional Heads, ruling MPR will likely be possible. Therefore, making amendment is no sweat,” said Hayono.

Moreover, Political expert from Indonesia Institute of Science Ikrar Nusa Bakti confirmed Hayono’s statement, saying that Prabowo’s supporters and Democrat’s men in MPR are around 352, more than half of total seats. “It is plausible that MPR will change presidential election mechanism because Prabowo knows that with direct election, it is impossible for him to get elected,” said Ikrar.

The blatant power grab is a real bugger for Indonesia; something that will see a return to all the corruption and dodgy dealing of the Surharto era.
I read the linked piece this morning, intending to post it here, but you beat me to it.
The only slight advantage to this is, everyone can now see what this man really is.
As for the army, them and mass protests are the only things that can stop the coup. Either way, Indonesia has a massive problem.

The other thing that strikes me is, all extremists need an enemy.
We've already seen "Foreigners and communists" being blamed for everything, so I wonder which group will get hammered first, or will they just murder a bunch of Chinese descended landowners as communists, then steal their land and cash? The gangs can also get a few rapes in to keep them happy - the old favourites may well make a return.

I really hope this madness can be stopped before Surharto MK II ends up as president. I love Indonesia and don't want to see it damaged by a coup and return to the dictatorships of old.

To prepare for the possibility of impeachment, the Merah Putih coalition made the first move by passing the controversial Law on Legislative Bodies, also known as the MD3 law. Joko’s judicial review application against the MD3 law was rejected.

Controlling both bodies means they can change laws and the Constitution at will, even scrapping the direct presidential election system. This could make the People’s Consultative Assembly, or MPR, the body that elects the country’s president, turning the country back to a New Order era type of iron-fist regime.

Unless we fight this master plan, this nightmare scenario will happen. You have been warned.

Question here is now....how they are going to fight the maste plan and when ??

The elephant in the room, you know, that big animal that's hard to ignore, but seems to be ignored in current discussion, is that if this does in fact play out, it will very likely pave the way towards autonomy, or possibly even independence of some provinces…one in particular I can think of!

My understanding after 'conversations' I won't elaborate on:

The R/W group will change the law and impeach Jokowi "legally", and allow the new president to be elected by them.
They will elect Prabowo. who will become the 'popular' president dictator.
Parliamentary elections will then either be scrapped or fixed to make sure R/W keep a majority.
New order MKII is in place.

The only factor not decided is the people, and possible mass protests.
I see red being in the streets if they continue this madness.

As a note, this will badly damage the Indonesian economy - I wonder who in the circles of power happens to be moving their business and assets out of the country at this point.

I don't know Tom. My brother in law who is a long time sitting Bali Provincial DPRD member is of the mind that if SBY issues the Perpu, (regulation), which is in his power to do, then the Provinces will most probably be left to decide how their governors are elected...i.e., by Jakarta (which makes no sense) or the Provinces.

For certain, Bali will not accept any governors not elected by the people of Bali.

Hailey, I've been thinking about you and wondering if you are getting on OK with the huge demonstrations going on. What I heard on the news today was somewhat troubling, in that the demonstrators are saying that if the HK executive does not leave his office by Thursday that they will start to occupy public buildings. That sounds dicey.

Do be careful if things get out of hand!

The National Awakening Party's (PKB) central executive board chairman, Abdul Kadir Karding, confirmed on Tuesday that the United Development Party (PPP) had decided to leave the Red-and-White Coalition in favor of president-elect Joko “Jokowi” Widodo's coalition, adding that the move also meant that the PPP would be supporting the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) leadership candidates proposed by Jokowi's Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P)-led coalition.

The PPP's decision was made after being lobbied by the PDI-P in the past few days.

“It is 100 percent certain that the PPP will join the [PDI-P's] coalition. The [lobbying] process has been completed,” Karding said as quoted by tribunnews.com.

A week is a long time in politics.

How to start up luke, when the horse lord still on fire to make the new president coalition failed? New Goverment= start up/reboot. But if the leader still on idle status, and war everywhere, it's still far away from restrart button.

KMP Claims Graft as Grounds for Delaying Jokowi’s Inauguration

Jakarta. While attempts are being initiated to delay President-elect Joko Widodo’s inauguration, the majority of politicians believe it is best for the nation to ensure Joko’s swearing in a smooth and timely ceremony.

Some legislators and supporters of Prabowo Subianto’s Red-White coalition, or KMP, have floated a proposal to have Joko’s inauguration delayed based on a corruption accusation, a move that could spark protests across the country.

Rachmawati Soekarnoputri, a younger sister of Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri, has accused Joko of involvement in corruption in the procurement of buses for the TransJakarta network, and demanded that his inauguration be delayed.

“The House will invite KPK leaders and the Attorney General to explain the case based on Rachmawati’s report,” said Fadli Zon, a deputy speaker of the House of Representatives and KMP mouthpiece.

House Speaker Setya Novanto and People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Speaker Zulkifli Hasan, however, have given assurances that Joko’s inauguration will be conducted as planned.

So far, so good.
There's no obvious tension detectable, and all is running normally.
I would suspect, should anyone disrupt the ceremony, stopping the president taking office, that may well change quickly.
So far, it all seems to be bluster and BS, I hope it stays that way.

Yes, Monday should be a great day for Indonesia - a celebration of democracy and the old dictatorships shuffling off their mortal coils.
Sadly, if I may stop with the wobbling Willy in favour of Dickens, Jacob Surharto's ghost is making a guest appearance on the presidential palace's door knocker.

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chairman of Gerindra Party Prabowo Subianto has called on his sympathizers to support the next administration of president-elect Joko "Jokowi" Widodo as long as its projects are good for the Indonesian people.

"I have asked the party that I lead, my friends and loyalists, to support (the administration) of Joko Widodo," stated the retired general Prabowo Subianto after his meeting with Jokowi on Friday, as quoted by Antara News.

He said he believed that Jokowi too would like to preserve the integrity of the nation, diversity of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia, and Pancasila ideologies.

But, Prabowo cautioned, if the Jokowi administration makes policies to the disadvantage of the people, then his party and sympathizers will not hesitate to criticize.

"Thats what I have told him, and that is democracy," he added.

Is this the start of brains and common sense being used, or just a ruse?
