Rising prices in Mauritius: how far will it go?

Veedushi

Hello everyone,

Since April 16, fuel prices in Mauritius have surged: petrol has increased from Rs 58.45 to Rs 64.25, and diesel from Rs 64.80 to Rs 71.25. And this may only be the beginning… The Minister of Commerce has warned that another increase cannot be ruled out.

The impact is already very real for individuals. Some motorists now have to spend up to Rs 1,444 more per month, according to local media reports. At a time when everyday expenses are already rising (food, gas, etc.), many are seeing their budgets seriously strained.

On the business side, the situation is just as tense. Transport costs are soaring, margins are shrinking, and some companies can no longer absorb these increases. This is leading to price hikes, a nearly unavoidable situation, with a domino effect expected across several sectors.

In concrete terms, this means consumers could soon face a general rise in prices. Some estimates suggest increases of between 20% and 50% for certain products, with gradual adjustments expected in the coming weeks.

And you, how are you dealing with this situation?

Have you already reduced your travel or changed your habits?

Are you feeling the impact on your monthly budget?

Have you noticed prices increasing around you?

Thank you in advance and speak soon,
