Hello all,

I’m new to the forum and I’m so glad I found it.  I really want to move to the Dominican republic in hopes of starting a business.
I’m a mechanical, design, manufacturing engineer by trade and a chef/BBQ Pit master by passion.
I travel allot to the Dominican republic and my dad is from la Vega.
I would really like to leave all this here behind and start my own restaurant out there.
Something small to start so I can get my food out there and see if it takes off.

The question is, I’m just not sure where I want to live. I really do love the beach an my dream would be to retire near it.
I’m love boating and I plan to someday own a boat there too.
La vega and Santiago don’t really have allot going on as far as rio’s and beaches.
The nearest is jarabacoa or Puerto plata. There’s a few nice rios near la vega too.
I see that las terrenes is becoming pretty popular and getting really expensive too ( Never been there) . Puerto Plata is the farthest I have explored.
Would love to hear feedback from those who live from Puerto Plata and all around the coast to las terrenes . Puerto Plata is nice but the beaches are not as nice as the ones further down.
Looking for a nice gated community that I can Invest in now. I do have another question.
I heard that one of the most nicest beaches out there is is “Playa La Ensenada”
Which is opposite direction of Sosua. How come there isn’t allot of hotels and tourist attractions there yet? Can this turn into the next “las terrenes” in the future???
Just curious.

Thanks to al and hope to hear from you soon.

Punta Rucia and Playa Ensenada are best kept secret albeit the locals flock there at weekends and tourists arrive by busloads for tours to Cayo Arena. It is my destination of choice for a quiet beach vacation staying at Punta Rucia Lodge. I don't see it as the next LT. But it is a sheltered area for boats and some great coastline to the west to explore.

You say you like boating. You should check out Luperon to the west of Puerto Plata with it's fine natural harbour and home to an expat community. Rio San Juan to Cabrera is also worth a mention heading east along the NC.

Thank you for the info. Greatly appreciated.

I think playa ensenada is off the beaten track and too far from airports for resorts to look at developing.  Thats my guess.

If you want to look on the other coast the south west is going to get developed.  Lots of stunning beaches and Rios!
