Electric meter inside the house

Hello,

I have an electric meter that is outside my house at the moment but I want to out an extra front door on my house and this will make the meter inside a newly created porch.

I've had different information about whether or not my meter must be outside (for easy reading) or f it can be inside  the house.

Can anyone advise? Thanks.

Steve

Hi Steve, Welcome :)

Electricity meters are only required to be installed outside the house for new constructions.

If you decide to change the current location of the meters, then law requires it to be outside the house; if you decide not to change it, the meter must remain in the same place, under the law to which the building was originally submitted.

Your case is none of the above... You are not going to change the location of the meter, but you are going to seal off access to it from the outside by refurbishing your house...

You will have to ask that to your Town Hall/Câmara Municipal, because they will have to supervise/ approve your rebuilding project and/or your electricity supplier about this.

Hi Johnny,

Thank you very much for your reply; it's very useful  information.
