Before making the move, I suggest that you visit Algarve yourself for a few weeks. This will allow you to get the feel of how life is and what it would be like to retire there.

we have purchased a home in Sao Bras for our retirement and having spent many years visiting the algarve I knew we didn't want to live somewhere in the centre of tourism region but looked for a more local vibe. Everything is within driving distance of the coast, Loule, and Faro and the town has such a good vibe and people very friendly. We haven't retired as yet so I'm basing this on our visits at the moment but my advice is to spend some time and see what you really want for your future before making a commitment to one place. Local shopping, conveniences, budget, transportation etc are all things you should consider before a final decision!
