what is the admission process in primary school in malta

The Public schools are good they say but then everyone including the maltese put their kids in Church or private schools.. but till Primary you should not have any issue with Public school i believe.. The San gwann primary school is very good i have heard and i dont know any other one but guess most of them must be good only.. in Church schools you need to apply and wait for your turn..the selection is through lottery process.

It will be on internet the admission procedure..

Do you know where on Malta you will be working as that will help with deciding on schools.

the question of language has been discussed MANY times, you can search the forum. Some are mixed, some mostly english etc.

You can also go to a private school for pure english

Ya my office is in Marsa.. So I was thinking to be in near by areas like hamarun, st. Verena..

Do u have any idea about the fees structure for the private school? Or it's free

anything from a few thousand to $18 000/year, really depends what you are after - long waiting lists.

You so t need an agency. Just call the schools.

You have a legal right to the school in your district where you live.

For state primary school it is based on location, so if you are going to live in Santa Venera they can be registered at the local school, they mostly teach through Maltese. Just call the school about registration since you arrive during the summer, they can attend summer school here (it’s like summer camp but at the school)
Church schools as far as I know the children must be baptised and it’s a lottery system, you sign them up and hope you get a place basically, they teach through both mediums English and Maltese usually it’s the teachers preference.
Private and internationals schools are costly and can be difficult to get into, you’re looking anywhere between 3000€-10,000 per year and they teach through English, and Maltese is an option as is religion but you must pay for them not to do it, this is all before paying for uniforms (usually two types summer and winter uniforms), books, etc.

So it really all depends on what you want, while English is spoken a lot here so is Maltese so it may be good for your kids to learn if they are going to be here long term.
It’s best you choose the location you will be living in and call the local school. And the same for any international/private school and they will instruct you.

I was wondering if you have decided for a school now? We are moving to Malta in August this year and looking to live in San Gwann too. Our kids only speak English and I am trying to get all the info to make a good choice. Unfortunately most info here is very old so I would appreciate a little advice from you. Many thanks

Hi we haven't moved yet we will also move by august.. But my husband is there and we rented an apartment in san gwann area. And finalized public school in that area.. The procedure is u if ur non EU national them u have to visit education minister office in florina with required doc. And with both parents and kids then they will tell u how to proceed. If ur r an EU national dn u can directly contact to school..

Hi, that’s great you enrolled locally. Will they speak English in class then or Maltese?
We are over to visit in July to look for some apartments and have also looked at San Gwann.

I heard they speak English in classroom. In Pembroke and in birkirkara schools too.. I took apartment from agency

Hi, may I know any processing fee needed for register to Public school?

I will fly to Malta probably in Sept before school starts.  I heard St Margaret is not bad too, any idea from you all? Thanks.
