Travelling to UK with e-residence card as a Third Country National

Hi all, I just received by e-residence permit card from my work permit, FINALLY! I was planning a trip to the UK and was wondering what the procedure is now. I read that the e-residence card cannot be used for travelling. Therefore would I need to the go to the British Embassy to apply for a travel visa? Or since I am Indian I will not be allowed? And can I travel to other EU countries with my Indian passport or would I need a Schengen visa? Thank you as I could not find any information about this!

At a glimpse I would say you can travel to all the Schengen countries because borders are open. Just carry your passport and the e-residence card together as a proof of your status. When it comes to the UK and Ireland the story appears to be different you still have to contact the British embassy to get permission to enter the UK. When it comes to the Schengen visa you should get it right here in Malta, because Malta is one of the Schengen countries.
