Hello everyone. Im Zimbabwean and getting married to an Austrian in October and I would apply for the permission to stay in Austria. I'm asking if there's anyone who's had an experience with the applications as a spouse to an Austrian between 2017 and present. And is a German A1 certificate a must if I am coming as a spouse/family? I've done the course before but it was in 2016 and by now it's invalid for an application if required.
Not only Zimbabwean but if there's anyone with proper info, please you're welcome to reply.

Hi there,

I have investigated this a little bit from a South African point of view and you have to apply for a residence permit with your local Austrian Embassy in Zimbabwe before you go over. The German certificate is compulsory regardless of marriage. You also have to show means of financial support either from your spouse or from a job offer and proof of medical insurance.
