Application for South African Infant Passport for Baby Born in the UK

Hi there,

My husband and I are considering flying to the UK for the delivery of our child. I have citizenship through descent and know that our child will then qualify for his/her own if born there.

We are wondering how long it takes to apply for a South African passport so that we can return home not too long after the birth? Or if it is possible to apply for a temporary passport while waiting for the original?

Has anyone else done this and do you have any ideas of how long the process can take. I don't want to necessarily stay for 4 months while waiting as my husband will need to return to South  Africa for work.

Any help welcome :)
