Registering a birth in Poland

Hello everyone,

Have you had to or are you going to register a birth in Poland? What was the experience like?

Who is required to register the birth, and where? Can it be either the mother or father?

What documents are usually required in Poland?

How long does the process to register a birth take? Are there any time limits in which the registration must be completed?

Did you register the birth with your home country and how did that process compare? Will your child be able to have dual nationality?

Thank you for sharing your experience.

Priscilla

Hi Priscilla

You can register in a local Urząd - depending on where the child was born (which hospital). You'll need your ID and a document from the hospital. Of course you'll need to put a name for the baby there:).
There probably is some designated time for registering, but honestly I don't think you have to hurry with it. Just do it in your own time. The registration is instantaneous and in some cases the child is given Pesel number too. There can however, be a large number of people in line for registration etc.
