Hi ashZ

Foreign nationals need work permits to work legally in Malaysia. Prospective employers apply for the permits. They must submit documentation to justify the need to hire a foreigner over a local. You need to supply your prospective employer in Malaysia with certain documents before the employer can apply for your work permit.

If a Malaysian company asks you to apply for the work permit yourself, you can assume the offer of employment is fake. Always deal with the employer directly rather than an agent who may charge you money for services the employer must carry out anyway.

I hope the above helps.

Personally, I have try to assist a few friends who are students to get a job but most potential employers are reluctant to hire them due to the work permit requirement as they rather recruit locals. Your skill must be really needed in certain field, then your chances of getting a job will be much greater.

Therefore, we get a lot of illegal workers desperate for work. Don't cross that line as it is not worth it.

In a nutshell, put your great effort in getting a job and your employer will take care of the rest. Good luck. :)

Cheers,
Chris

Hello Ashz,

I have to agree with chrisck9.
The best way is to find a job and then get the employer to get your permit. However you must have very specialised skills to justify it.

My colleague had his permit renewed twice but then it was no longer renewed. He had to leave.

By the way, what do you specialise in?

I've searched info about working permit and all the visa but none of it helps! I heard there are illegal ways to get the working permit for 2k+ but don't know trusted anot.

Now I'm planning to make a business here myself. Do u need a Malay partner or just any local? Any advice?

Victor: I have nothing! I've worked in the factory before and I used to study design in my country.
What I'm most great at is dj-ing! But I don think that could help me to get job here and let me stay here for long. Now it's even hard for me to find a dj job.

salam.

I can see most of the Iranian here have a very bad impression from local people maybe because of their attitude or maybe they cannot get along with local people here. Here, most of the foreigner worker (most of them from asean countries) work in construction and factory and I dont think so you want to work as a casual labor. Most of the employer also preferred to hire local. My advise if you want to be successful here, you must have local partner in business and apply for employment visa under your company.

well, actually you can do both. if u are willing to put in more money then u dont need a Malay partner but if u dont want to do so then u need a Malay partner.
its a new rule that was set out recently!

i know this because me and a friend were helping out an Iranian guy and his girlfriend open out a business here in Malaysia :D

SOFIA: what kind of business?? if i were to open a bakery shop here myself, do you think i could open it myself? and, must it be a MALAY partner?? cannot be chinese?

pm and i will explain more :)

You need to find a company to offer you a work contract letter then you can apply to immigration then they will assess your application.
Every case treated individually and there is no another way to get it as far as I know.
