45000??  You are among the 10% of the highest paid expatriates at Abu Dhabi. It's of course more than enough to spend and save here.
Good luck..

Lami3

thanks for reply

but is it enough to rent a good 2 beds apartment , pay schools for 2 kids , and live a fair life ?

dr.berry

A decent 2 bhk apartment starts from around 100000 dirhams annually and I'm sure you can give good education to children and equally save too for now.

Lami3

Thanks for reply , although i heard schools cost a lot there

dr.berry

Yes .. schooling is a little expensive here .. but I'm sure that you will gradually grow with your administration too gradually . I'm a new expatriate here working as an orthodontist since 2 months.

Lami3

welcome , thanks for the help..

do u have any idea about the average salaries for specialists at abu dhabi , is a 45000 aed (as a net) is considered within the average or less?

stumpy

For cost of living etc www.numbeo.com

dr.berry

The pay for specialists starts from 30-35000... so 45K is of course on the above average side now.

It depends where you are coming from and the standard of living you are used to. High school costs the approximate equivalent of $22000 (that is about 80000 )without any of the extras (school bus, Mac laptop mandatory, gym uniforms and my kids play piano) Housing can be expensive. I would be happy to discuss more with you

can i get in touch with you for more details , i need to know if it really worth leaving my country and current job and come to abu dhabi for such a salary

I am not a doctor but I have been in the UAE since 1989. As Dr Berry said, the salary is not bad although I know of specialists earning nearly double that amount. Well I am an engineer earning much less but leading a comfortable life. Yes, the rents and children's schooling are a bit on the expensive side yet this amount is enough to save some thing as well. So good luck

Sure......send me contact details please.

Indian school fees are 25 to 30 k for primary school (for 6 yrs) and for kinder garden it will be arround 20k to 25k dirhams (including school bus fees). Yes you need to spend additional 2k for each of kid for clothes, books and so on. In net you spend 100k for rent and say 60k for school.

Rent                    100k
School                   60k
Water Electricity   12k
TV & Internet           6k
Food in home :       72k (6k per month much higher than normal life guys over here)
Travel and misc     15k ( 1k per month and 3k for weekend travel if u have car sooner this                will be less)
======================================================
Total : 265k

Now even you add additional 35 k for your international to and fro ,other expenses , total spent will be 300k . So remaining amount is till 240k dirhams.

At present if you are able to save around 200k then you need to think , it is lesser than this then you can make a call.

does living cost posted above include entertainment, im not a guy of big entertainment fan, but if we need to go out as a family at least once or twice a week for dinner in a good restaurant , would this cost a lot?

NIrman

In above calculation if you see I have added 35k extra , that should be sufficient but still remaining amount was 240k and you end up spending 40k extra on lifestyle and so on. You are left with 200k. Hence I said at last that if you have saving more than 200k dirhams in your country you need to think if not you have to decide.

Hope the following helps:
1. If you are moving from India, you may want to consider renting in Mussafah, where there are many schools for you to consider for your elder child. This would mean the commuting for your child is minimised.
2. Your younger child can stay at home with your wife, if she is not working. If your wife works, then you could consider a live-in maid to assist with child-care. This would cost you about dhs 3000/ month (all inclusive) and your wife's income would more than cover this outgoing.
3. For your own work, you may have to commute so be prepared to go through the rigmarole of getting a driving licence initially - followed by buying your own car. For your guidance, this country has left-hand drive on vehicles as you keep to the right of the road - the opposite of the British system that is followed all through the Commonwealth.
4. Since your children are still quite young, you may want to consider up-skilling - at some stage you will tire of this place and want to move on.
Please do not hesitate to let me know if I could be of any further assistance.
Kind regards
Uackee
