Could you tell me do my wife and son who were born in botswana, but both live in uk and
both hàve indefinite leave to remain in the UK,  do they need to apply for a visa before traveling to Malta for a 2 week holiday when traveing with myself a full UK citizen?
Please let me know soon, I'm going to book the holiday for last week in august.

Do they have residence permits ? because if they do they shouldnt need  visa if they are travelling with you to malta

Well, this issue comes up quite often.

As the UK is not part of the Schengen area a non-EU family member of an EU citizen does require a visa even if travelling with the EU spouse and being resident in the UK.

My daughter-in-law (Turkish) but born in Germany and married to my son (German) and both wanting to travel together to the UK to visit my mother there was  denied entry into the UK without a visa! So to avoid trouble you should apply for a visa!

In theory it is supposed to be visa - free but it does not seem to work that way in Europe.

Cheers
Ricky
