Things to do in Nagoya during the weekends

Hi,

What do you usually do on your weekends in Nagoya?

Are there any places to visit, any activities, any events or festivals regularly organized you would like to recommend?

What are your top tips for the weekend in Nagoya?

Thank you in advance for sharing your experience, ;)

Christine

Although this is a really old post, I think I can help here.

Nagoya is a great city to live in because it is both near the sea and also near mountains and countryside. It is a bit like a mini Tokyo in that it is well developed and commercial but without the stress of Tokyo. There are many parks and museums in Nagoya and lots of nice areas to shop such as the Osu Shopping Street which not only has flea markets on weekends but also sells lots of secondhand clothing, retro clothing stores and stores selling products from around the works. The place is very extensive and you could easily spend half a day in this area. Also, nearby is the Osu Kannon Temple.

Nagoya also has it's own historical castle, the Toyota Commemorative Museum of Industry and Technology, TheToyota Automobile Museum and the excellent Port Of Nagoya Public Aquarium which have live dolphin and killer whale performances.

But the really great thing about Nagoya is that it is not far from some of the most famous touristic parts of Japan. Historical cities like Kyoto are only 35 minutes away by public transport, Kobe and Osaka are both about an hour's train journey away while Nara and it's famous deer park is just two hours train ride away.
