Costa Rica is a beautiful country and has a lot to see, both on land and water. But be careful of the tour company you chose to explore Costa Rica. The company to avoid is G.....tours Costa Rica.  As we have learned through the American Embassy this company has chosen not to abide by the CR tourism regulations. Apparently you don't have to follow any safety guidelines if you don't want to which is what they did.
We speak from first hand experience as my wife was severely injured on their boat because their boat did not safety rails, steps or anyone helping people board. Which by the way you had to do by wading out to the boat and climb up a little swim later, for a whale watching tour. They have insurance but if it's their fault they tell you you have to go to court and sue them before they will pay.
I could go on with more on how they treat you if you get injured on their boat but it would be to long.
What you need to know is there are many other tour companies that do follow the regulations.

Thanks for the warning. It goes to show that one needs to do "due diligence" in choosing businesses to use, in Costa Rica and other foreign countries especially, where regulations and standards tend to be more lax than in the USA.

You are more likely to be injured walking on the sidewalks here, rather than  when you choose to participate in a trip put on by a tour company.

There is no way that you will be compensated or treated at the municipalities expense if this happens, as you can expect to be told 'you should have been looking where you are going..'
