Hi All,
I live in London and I've just been offered a job in Jeddah and would appreciate if you can answer some of these questions:

Is 14000 as a package incl. housing allowance a good salary In Jeddah?

Is it true that my wife cannot go outside the house on her own with the child for shopping ....?

Is there any public beach or for families and can adults swim?

What is the best way to look for flat/house for rental? if you have any website, please feel free to post it.

What are the good areas to look for accomodation?

Any other information is highly appreciated.

regards / Othycool

Hello Othycool, welcome on board :)

Regarding your package, before anybody could reply, it would be interesting to tell us for which position you have been offered.  At first sight, without more information, I'd say minima 14000 exclusive of housing allowance. I don't know about Jeddah but in 2008 (before I left) rentals were on the increase in KSA.

It was common at that time that the housing allowance would be minimum three-fold of your monthly salary!

There is no reason (unless you are Muslim maybe), why your wife couldn't go shopping alone with the kid! I used to go during 8 years (my husband hates shopping  ). If you're living on a compound, they usually have minibuses with shopping schedules, very practical for us woment who aren't allowed to drive :(

For the rest, I'll leave members of Jeddah to respond.

Cheers

Hi Arlette,

Many thanks for your reply, the position is Sales Executive for a Travel Company based in Jeddah and I have to sort out the housing myself, they will provide accomodation for the first month, then I have to find something myself.

I don't think I can afford compounds if the prices I saw on the internet of 80.000 SAR per year are correct.
Otherwise, I saw some adverts for 3 bedroom flats at 3000 SAR per month, may be the forum members in Jeddah can shed some light on this.

We are muslim but my wife is used to go out on her own and drive, so I'm glad she can go out on her own in Jeddah.

Regards

Othmane
