Just wondering how easy is it for non German speaking people to start a life in hamburg.
Are there jobs available?

I'm in Hamburg and I've found that there are jobs if you either can teach English and have the appropriate teaching degree or certificate, or if you are highly skilled, like a scientist or engineer. Other than that, the pickings can be a bit slim since you might be competing against people with similar backgrounds who speak German. My husband's had a lot of trouble finding work here, unfortunately for us.

In your profile it says you're working in health care, do you work with patients or in a more administrative role? There are so many other English expats here that a good English speaking medical professional might be in demand.

Hi Claire I have the same fear to find a job in Hamburg as am an office manager and personal asst with 20 years exp. Speaking English / Arabic but not German.

I guess even my daughter who is 10 might suffer at school coz she doesn't speak German.

Let me know your recommendations.
