Being neuropsychologist in Egypt when you come from Europe

Hello all,
My name's Cindy and I'm working for a psychologist/neuropsychologist in a private cabinet in France. We are considering the opportunity to come in Egypt and offer consultation for children.
I would like to know several thing that I couldn't find on the Internet:
- Do you need absolutely a Ph.D in psychology to practise that job or is a master enough?
- Does it exist a licence that you have to obtain or buy to practise privately?
- Is this job completetly private, or do you need to be certificated by a doctor in a clinical environment?

Thank you very much for you help,
Nice day to all!

Hi Cindy,

Welcome to Expat.com :)

Thank you

Thank you very much Maximilien. Nice to meet you.

Hi there Cyindy,

I believe what you need involves contacting the Syndicate specifically no one else will help you.
to practice in Egypt as a foreigner has some restrictions.
Some Doctors come here nominated i guess by hospitals (i.e the hospital gets them the grant to operate etc in its name and finishes their requirements.)

anyway if you think i can help you somehow with a call or two to some entity please tell me how i`ll try to help.
on the other hand i`ll try to ask some doctors i know here in different speciality (the procedure for any speciality will be the same).

Meanwhile have you considered how much are the consult/fees for such doctors here in Egypt? remember that competitiveness (even if you are reputable) requires that you study the market somehow! i`m just saying so, so you won`t be disappointed if you came here and didn`t find it up to your expectations.
but as a last note as a "French" alone .... have some good impression on the ears of the public here.

Regards,

Nabil

Hello again,

I contacted the syndicate briefly today steps are not hard and it is as follows :

1- Your Doctor has to 1st of all contact the Syndicate to "Reocgnize him" and that surely involves sending his Graduation papers and any masters or PhD i guess as well for pocessing by them.

2- After you have to go in "Medical practionaers license" authority its under authority of the government "Ministry of Health" they decide to give you a license and what are the steps required

i asked the guy i called in the syndicate what if the steps are hard can we know before if we apply for "step 1"
he said contact the guys of the ministry of health they have agreement with many countries (i.e Easy steps after you give them your french graduation papers , it should not take time i guess) but that depends france is one of those countries or not.

Tomorrow i`ll get in contact with those and get you the final answer on the steps.

P.S : he asked me in the start what type of business the french doctor will do i told him "consultancy" but he said that usually there is other way around as a "Professional doctor under a hospital cover" so it might be your other way around if the 1st way failed.

Regards,

Nabil

welcome :)

Hey there,

Thank you very much Nabil, It's just amazing how much you just helped. I got some inforation about that but they only were some puzzles pieces.
Is the area of psychology/neuropsychology a part of the medical area ? Knowing that my boss (the neuropsychologist) won't make any prescription of medicines since she doesn't have any ph.D. It just "consultancy" as you said. Anyway, I'm so happy to get responses to my questions.
Best wishes :)
Cindy

Hi, i`m sorry i got the numbers of the "Medical practitioners license" they never replay :/  (its common here with governmental authorities) anyway i found the data online on the ministry of health webpage but its in Arabic.

Well in Egypt there is a 1- Practitioner
                                     2- Specialist (need a Msc. )
3-Consultant (highest rank needs a PhD. etc. )
So whatever  your doctor is he should be there, and yes the Psychology/Neuro psychology is part of the medical area in general yes.
I found the requirements  "foreign" doctors too of many specialties and level also for psychology BUT not not for foreigners in psychology so i guess to know the steps i have to call them directly.

tomorrow i`ll try again but that will be my best effort. to be honest .
hopefully i`ll get you a list of the requirements in English of the syndicate + the  Ministry of health.

Cheers

BTW i`m having my papers assessed for Engineers Australia, any profession is similar in steps 90% worldwide. that's why i thought i can help.
and  remember the "Certified true copy" because this requirement for ALL your papers is hilarious and time consuming.

Hello again cindy,  :)

i did what i could i spoke with the office for "licenses" but they weren`t really useful and i can give the number but trust me its just a waste of time to speak over phones to such entities in Egypt :(
Boring and they keep sending you from one to another.

Anyway, your doctor can come here yes , but you need an egyptian lawyer located in cairo to help you out... there is much details required.
Is your doctor a graduate from the faculty of "Medicine" or he had other psychology studies? they asked me this and i couldn`t answer.

well papers needed also depends on that (medicine doctor or not)and also depends on he has Msc. or just a normal graduate with some years of experience? (i.e : equivalent to specialist or consultant??? consultant has conditions... must have worked for some specific years OR had PhD. )

I really did my best and some one of your side must go pay them a visit.. i know a Lawyer he is an intimate friend BUT he is Alexandrian like me and that office is located in Cairo :/ so sorry you are better off with a lawyer office (choose a famous office with many lawyers they can serve you better and can handle languages involved)
Also if you got a lawyer , please drop by and tell me how much he asked you for to finish this. in case he fools you or so.... many lawyers here are bastards and Generally lawyers should be cheap.

P.S : i say lawyer because they are the best people that can finish this here in egypt and they know there ways around in governmental routines.

Cheers and good luck.

Hi Nabil,
Thank you very much for your halp again. I don't know what I would have done without you. Anyway I'll give my boss all this information and we will, but of course we must come in Cairo and operate downtown for the following steps.
Aigain, thank you very much for your kindness and your calls to the egyptian institutions.
Have a very nice day,
Best wishes.
PS: I keep you updated with the following of my adventures.
