I seemed to miss it in the news and I'm sure nothing as yet has been posted on here.
After attending a meeting today with the College Principle of Maria Regina. We have been informed that;

1.) Middle schools are being introduced from September 2014. These for the first year will house ONLY form 1 children. The following year they will house Form 1 and Form 2 years only. They will then go onto the last school for the remaining 3 years.

2.) They will no longer be called Form 1-6 but years 7-11.

3.) All secondary schooling will be Co-ed!

We had a meeting about it a few weeks ago here on Gozo. It affects my daughter who goes to secondary school next year. Doesn't concern us much as we are used to a co ed system, but there seem to be a few that aren't happy.

My son is affected as well. I have no problem with co-ed either, I guess I am upset as my son would have moved onto a brand new, fully equipped school. He is now going even further away to a old and previously disused  school. I just hope, that they put money into kitting out these extra schools straight away and don't think to themselves that they will wait to see if it works first...I don't want the next 2 years to be experimental!

I guess we are lucky. My daughter will go to Gozo girls school building in any case as that is where form 1/yr 7 will be next yr, and it's next door to the boys school which is a new building and will become the new secondary school in future yrs as I understand it.
We had heard talk of it a few years ago but it seems to have suddenly been announced and that it starting this September.
