Hey there,

My criminal clearance certificate is now older than 90 days. If I was not in my home country within these last 90 days and therefore anyway they cannot provide a new one stating that I didn't commit any crime there, can i still use this one?

I hope i'm clear.

Thanks

James

Hello Saudades,

If your Criminal Record Check was "legalized" by the Consulado-Geral do Brasil in the country where it was issued as it should be then it continues to be valid regardless of how old it is. Of course this has certain limitations, for example if you had not returned to that country during that time period there would be no problems whatsoever.

My Criminal Record Check was four years old when I finally submitted it, it didn't even raise an eyebrow with the Federal Police because it was accompanied by that nifty looking letter from the Consulate complete with a fancy gold seal and consular stamp on the original document. This combined with the fact that I hadn't been outside of Brazil in all that time was enough to make the Feds happier than little piglets in a mud wallow.

Hope this puts your mind at ease.
