Hi everybody,

there is “emmen” and “ħaseb”.
What is the difference between the two, a context in which one can be used but not the other one and vice-versa?
Sometimes they seem to be interchangeable and sometimes not, but I don't really know how and why.

I think you will find we are in the vast majority, English speaking.

Try any of these:

"Emmen" = he believed
"Haseb" = he thought

The first implies less certainty than the second. So we would say "George jemmen li Malta ser tidhol f'ricessjoni" = "George believes that Malta is going into a recession". An example of "haseb" would be "George haseb li kien il-Hadd" = "George thought it was a Sunday"

As far as I understand Malta up to know,
"believing" implies much more certainty than "thinking"...

May I suggest a separate topic category for 'Learning to speak Maltese that is grammaticality correct'?
