I agree that closed/inactive blogs can be useful.  But I think active blogs should be higher on the list perhaps.  And maybe some useful little icon to notify browsers that blogs are closed or inactive.  Of course the coolest thing would be if they all had RSS feeds, and those blogs that posted most recently showed up at the top with their latest post.

OK. Inscriptions are closed as we're maintaining the directory.

To let you know where we're going:

I'll develop a system that will allow us to modify the blog data, for example if the Expat.comger moved to another country or if he went back home.

We'll use RSS to know the date of the latest post on the blog, and I'll develop  a new classification system in the directory (integrating the date of the latest post). There are still a couple of technical issues but we'll arrange that very soon.

All broken links must be removed from the directory.

Natalie, Loloieg, could you please give me a couple of weeks before reporting me more problems in the directory?

no problem with me ... Natalie did much more than me so...

Idea (??) ... in the future directory you can add a button to report a broken link (as other blogs directory)

Anyway, that will be nice for sure !!

Yes I also had the idea of "report button" ... actually I'd like to add a button that launches a menu with the following options:

> report a broken link
> report  bad content
> report a change (the blogger moved for example)
> vote for this blog

Do not hesitate to complete this list if you're thinking about other interresting features

As we've also got problems with quality of the registered blogs, I'd also like to set up new acceptance rules such as:

> we don't accept blogs with less than 10 posts (or 2 months existance)
> we don't accept blogs with too much adsense blocks

and in the directory we'll separate
> student blogs
> "in-patriates" (is that the good word?) for those who went back home. Their blog should be located in their home country.
> "sleeping blogs", that haven't been updated for more than 2 months

What do you think?

The word your looking for is Repatriation or Repats, for people who have moved home again.  I suggest a couple more categories.  One for closed/finished blogs.  They can be very interesting, and you can read them from front to back, instead of most blogs.  Also I would find it helpful if blogs were catagorized by political blogs, news blogs, or business blogs...so I can avoid them like the plague.  I'm looking to read about people living everyday lives in a new place.  Just a thought.  And as for waiting to tell you about other problems, I would rather just keep posting now, and you can get to them whenever you want.  Otherwise, it will never happen.  Like I said, I'm just letting you know about bad links, not pressuring you to get them changed anytime soon.

not pressuring you to get them changed anytime soon

Oh dear, I am already pressuring by myself you know :D

I have to completely redevelop the directory but I am sure you'll like the way it's gonna be :)

Oh mah gosh!
That's the hell of a work! Y'all make a good team ;)

Yep, I haven't moved/deleted the reported blogs but I am thinking about a new way to manage the blog directory. It will take me a while to developp that tool but I am sure you'll really like it!

In one sentence, let's say that "the way to administrate the directory will be more participative" ... stay tuned!

Ah, the mystery ;)

Well, you know how IT jobs are ... always "evolving" with new technologies ... and I've also got technical limits

I am currently looking for a developer who could help me a little bit on a very specific part of code (it's a bit more complicated than what I thought).

Note that I am in contact with fantastic people who are explaining me interesting/technical things! (thanks Paul for your emails)

It took me a while but I deleted a lot of unvalid links (under Asia).

I definitely need to program something that will make the maintenance automatic.

But dear, it's more complicated than what I thought ... (and I am trying to tackle with 235 things in the same time)

About re-pats, do you think their blog should be located in their home country or should they stay in the country they've been living in (abroad)?

I've also made a list of 57 broken links, 3 private blogs. I'd like to contact their editor before I delete their data.

I would say the home country. :)

Julien, I've told you for months that I could maintain the directory. :)
C'est quand tu veux! Give me the keys ;)

Ok I've just finished to send 62 emails to members whose blog address isn't working anymore (and to private blogs).

I hope they'll send me their new address. Otherwise I'll delete their address/account next week
