Overstay in Brazil

09/11/23 @poseidon72.  A ten day overstay won't bring any further penalties and shouldn't make a difference in getting a visitor visa in the future.  In fact, they'll probably just tell the traveler to pay the fine on return; it will accrue interest, however, so paying before departure is cheaper in the long run.

Overstaying waiting for documents is only a small problem if, as we've discussed, the cartório is willing to perform the wedding, in spite of the expired visa.  If the cartório is willing, then the couple can proceed to the PF process after the wedding.  If not, the wedding will not take place and the overstay will just be fined like any other overstay.  This won't interfere with getting married later with an unexpired visa; some of the documents may need to be updated before travel, though.

For what it's worth, I originally overstayed waiting for documents to arrive to finish my marriage process. It was just one document, I had a protocol as well, and I was still denied entry back to the country for 6 months.
