Rental income from UK

Post new topic

Jennimh

I’m half English and half Maltese and have dual citizenship (both passports).

I live in the UK now but will probably move to Malta in about 3 years.

I have 3 rental properties in the UK which I pay tax on here - and the tax is very very high due to the way the UK system is set up for landlords.

I attended a webinar the other day with some Maltese tax experts and they said that if income is gained in the UK, but if you live in Malta, you only pay the tax on it in Malta.

this didn’t make any sense to me though..::is this true?

hi,

I am sure it must be correct if that’s what you have been told. X

Do not know whether the source of income makes a difference but I get taxed on two small pensions in the UK as they, together with my state pension, take me over the tax threshold, I then pay tax into the Maltese system on income remitted to Malta, where I live. I am a UK national resident in Malta.

You will probably be able to benefit from being able to offset some of the UK tax against that due in Malta.

Rental income is taxed in the UK, as mentioned you may get some relief on double taxation when you being it to malta.
