Age limits for teaching in Vietnam

John123470

Hi Everyone,

Does anyone have an idea about getting teaching work in Vietnam (Hanoi specifically) in one's 60's - and getting a work visa for same

Fit, able and well qualified native English male teacher, ESP, Ielts, General, Business English, lots of experience etc but no longer a young whipper-snapper ( i know, its truly awful 😉)

Any input gratefully received

I am similar position John

Almost 60

Australian living in Saigon with Honours Law degree, Accounting degree , qualified family and commercial mediator, no teaching experience per se but just got TEFL qualified.

Interested in hearing about the age issue too.Keep hearing you can’t get work visa to teach if over 60.

Hi Seaeagle,

It does seem hit and miss.  At least you are there on the ground and can knock on doors.

With your great qualifications, I would say you would be an excellent ESP teacher (English for Law, Business etc)

There has to be high demand for Business  English at the very least.

It will be interesting to see how we get on

Whenever possible, please take the time to report of your experience back to the forum. This is a subject of interest to many VN expats.

We would certainly appreciate hearing from you. (link)

There are a few places that prefer younger teachers but there are plenty who prefer the older, more experienced teachers. It looks like you have a lot to offer I can't imagine you having much trouble finding work here in Vietnam. There are still plenty of us who continue teaching into our 60's .

I'm pushing 75, fully qualified and legal...In accordance with DaNang Ministry of Education and Department of Labor, I'm still authorized to instruct the TOEFL/TOEIC and Business courses prior to Covid and currently.  I will only instruct to those over 17 years of age and the American versions and not the IELTS instructions/courses.

Good news, Anthony

That is very reassuring about the age factor.

I am quite interested in checking out Da Nang on the work front after a week or so in Hanoi in July
