The greater Toulouse area covers around 120km² and is served by a comprehensive transportation network, which includes buses, a subway and tramways. The city's large student population and vibrant nightlife have also given rise to an efficient night bus system, so rest assured that you will not be left stranded after a long night out.

Much of the beauty of the southwestern part of France lies in the quaint villages surrounding large towns and cities, so it is also worthwhile to either own a car or rent one every now and again in order to enjoy the beautiful sights of the region.

Buses in Toulouse

The bus network in Toulouse is known as 'Tisséo'. It consists of more than 80 lines, many of which are available at nighttime, that is from 9.30 pm to 1 am the next day on Friday and Saturday and from 9.30 pm to midnight from Sunday to Thursday. This is the case for the following lines: 2, 10, 12, 16, 22, 38, 66, 79, 81, 88 and TAD 106, 119 and 120.

Subway in Toulouse

The subway network consists of two lines, line A and line B. Line A runs across the Garonne river and runs from Basso-Cambo to Balma Gramont. Line B runs more or less along the river, starting from Borderouge all the way to Ramonville, and both lines have multiple stops along the way, including many in the centre of the city. The first trains generally start at around 5.15am. The network is operational until midnight from Sunday to Thursday and till 3 am on Friday and Saturday.

Tramway and the suburban line in Toulouse

Tramway lines T1 and T2 are connected to both subway lines, and to switch from tramway to subway, you will need to change at the Arènes station. The tramway line T2 starts at the airport and is a very convenient way of reaching the city centre. Both lines end at the Palais de Justice. This network allows you to reach the surroundings of Toulouse, including Tarbes, Foix and St Martin du Touch.

Mobibus in Toulouse

The Mobibus is specially intended for the disabled. Advance booking is recommended, and a single trip generally costs around â¬3. A ticket book is more economical for those who use the service regularly and costs â¬27. This system allows users to travel through the region's 86 municipalities.

City-center Shuttle

The city-centre electric shuttle is intended for people who wish to travel across the city-centre. Note that this shuttle bus is free of charge and is available from Monday to Saturday from 9 am and until 7 pm every 10 minutes.

For late-night trips in Toulouse

The city's public transport network is operational until late at night and is a favourite for the city's large student population. Bus lines 2, 10, 12, 22, 38, 78, 79, 81 and 88 are available from 9.30pm on Friday, from 9.30 pm to 1 am on Saturday and from 9.30pm to midnight from Sunday to Thursday.

Tram lines operate from 9.30 pm to 1 am on Friday and Saturday and from 9.30 pm to midnight from Sunday to Thursday. The subway lines are operational from 9.30 pm to 3 am on Friday and Saturday and as from 9.30 pm until midnight from Sunday to Thursday.

Noctambus in Toulouse

Night owls and revellers will be delighted to learn that Toulouse also provides a special service for those late nights out. Known as the Noctambus, the service is available on Thursday and Friday from 1 am to 4 am. Note that departure is scheduled every hour at Marengo-SNCF (the last bus departs at 4 am) towards university campuses. The Noctambus is operational as from the start of the academic year in September until the 30th of June.
