Dont understand your question

You seem to be confusing apartment rentals with visas

It is hard to rent an apartment in Colombia without knowing the owner..other than short term Airnb type rentals.

If you go through an agent they will ask for a fiador..a cosigner...or a,CDT in trust worth 6 months rent..or maybe both.

If you can contact the owner, might be able to convince him to rent to you for a depoosit of 3 to 6 months rent, sometimes more.

Thank you! And what is CDT?

@nico peligro

how does one find the owner of a property to possibly negotiate a rental agreement? i am looking to stay in Medellin to first determine if I like the area, and want to either rent or possibly buy an apartment.  AIRBNB are so expensive! .Thank you for any help you may give me.  you have any connections?  smile.png

Your best bet is probably "boots on the ground" and look for signs in the windows, "Se Alquila" with a phone number.  You can also "bribe" the security personnel of a gated apartment building or the like, talking to them and promising them a finders fee of 100 mil pesos or so, if they alert you to a place for rent and you end up renting it.

You can also try Locanto which is like Craigslist and which has homes, apartments, and rooms for rent (and for sale), often by the owners, as well as a myriad of other services:

Look under Inmobiliaria for Apartamentos en arriendo, Casas en arriendo, Habitaciones en arriendo.

Well I am still on here.

Sorry about my little rant

If you are worried about Airnb cots.  Colombia is not the place for you  and definitely not Medellin

Its not a low budget place to hang out anymore.

Try Bolivia( bring dollars cash to get the blue rate at the change kiosks on street corners), Nicaragua  Paraguay, Honduras  in the Americas. Cambodia, Laos in Asia, parts  of the Phillipines

You can do what Osage suggested  but it could and from personal experience probably would take weeks, espescailly as a first time foreigner with no contacts  and it would obiousy help if you were fluent in Spanish, and you   would have to stay in a hotel.or AIRNB  in the meantime.

It is what it is.
