You don't mention your budget. The price range in Medellín is from dirt cheap to near-astronomical, it depends on what you want to spend. But it is generally 1/3 to 1/2 of what you might spend in the US in a city for a comparable apartment.

You can see here on Locanto what owners and agencies are asking for apartments. Locanto is like Craigslist, ads may be placed at no charge. Look under INMOBILIARIA and click on the first line, Apartamentos en arriendo. Furnished apartment listings will usually include the word, amoblado.

On the right side of the page you will see nearby areas that you may wish to check out. Medellín is a large market so on the right you will see other neighborhoods also in Medellín such as El Poblado.

You may find it difficult to rent without a cédula, which is the national ID card. You might be able to offer to pay the whole 2-3 months in advance to an owner. This is because laws in Colombia favor the tenant and there's no easy way for the landlord to collect from people who don't pay, the morosos. Also there is nothing to stop a foreigner from just leaving the country without paying. So you may also want to check out AirBNB. You may be able to negotiate a lower rent for a 2-3 month stay which is longer than normal for AirBNB.

@treschances Prices in Poblado and even Envigado and Sabaneta, are going way, way up, even cose to NA and EU levels.

A lot of people push Laureles, but I have been there twice in the last year, and noticed it is getting sketchier and more dodgy every time I go.

La Setenta has more and more vagrants in the street from Venezuela and elsewhere panhandling, noisy bars at night, bothering people, bus sleeping / laying in the streets, garbage everywhere. Reminds me of Barrio Mariscal -Foch Plaza in Quito.

I woudnt be walking down La Setenta at night..a lot of people have been "scoped" there and end up on a " paseo millonario "

Living up near Rio Negro is remote and isolated, and el Retiro is starting to become very expensive.

Personally, (and I have followed this philosophy a long time ago), I would not live anywhere near Medellin
