Apostille of S.S document

Digitarius

Anyone have any tips on how to get a social security proof document apostille from Colombia?  I want to try it on my own,  Third party charges are becoming more and more outrageous.  Let me know please.  Also I notice some 3rd parties only do digital apostilles is the acceptable.  They charge 150.00 extra dollars for the hard copy.

I think this AI summary of the process outlining the steps and specifying forms is pretty good with sufficient detail:

Steps to Get a Social Security Proof Document Apostille from Colombia

1. Obtain the Required Document

Request a certified copy of your Social Security Statement or Benefit Verification Letter from the Social Security Administration (SSA).

Complete Form SSA-7004 to request the document, which can be done online or at a local SSA office.

Expect a processing time of 4 to 6 weeks for the document to arrive.

2. Determine the Apostille Process

Since the Social Security document is a federal record, it must be apostilled through the U.S. Department of State.

Complete Form DS-4194 for the apostille request.

3. Submit Your Request

Include the following with your apostille request:

The certified Social Security document.

A cover letter stating the country (Colombia) where the document will be used.

Payment of the processing fee, typically $20.00 per document.

4. Send Your Documents

Mail your request to the U.S. Department of State's Office of Authentications.

Use the appropriate mailing address for document submissions.

5. Processing Time

Standard processing times for federal apostilles can take more than 5 weeks.

Expedited services may be available for faster processing, often for an additional fee.

6. Additional Steps for Colombia

After receiving the apostille, check if further legalization is required by Colombian authorities.

Contact the Colombian consulate or embassy for any additional requirements.

I recall a few years back when I renewed my M visa I used a 3rd party  service located as I recall in Virginia??? or nearby, cost was about $160.00 USD and took a few days.

I have decided to apply now for my Residency as I meet all the requirements so probably will need to do this again in the coming weeks, will use the same service.

What is the name of the company? @South American Voyager

South American Voyager

Certainly - Apostille.pro was recommended to me by my attorney in Medellin whom I trust, and so after my standard due diligence with this company I pulled the trigger and paid $149.00 plus $25.00 for a scanned copy which is admissible by Colombia immigration. This was in December 2024.

The $149.00 fee is for the standard service (turnaround time of one week) and took me exactly 7 days. They also offer a much quicker turnaround time of something like 3 days at an additional cost.

The actual apostille was documented by the State of Illinois so they have a presence in every US State.

There are other companies but all in all was satisfied with this company and would use them again.

Thank you so much. @South American Voyager
