I was thinking this, stay in Mexico for 11 days and then return to the UK. My flights to the UK have already been canceled so just looking at my options.

No no, you didnt miss anything, I didn't mention at all that I applied for CRNM so i have no idea where this information came from 😅 I am simply here on a tourist visa that I have extended and cant get to the uk directly because of cancelled flights

Mexico worked. Not bad to layover this time of year, June thru Nov is Hurricane season. I'd plan now before something else changes

I just checked this yesterday with the PF. It’s only for whoever has the residency in Brazil. Tourist visa is not included.

Interesting. Most permanent residency (CRNM) have an expiration date (under 60 years old), but all you need to do is a check-in with PF, and if nothing has changed since the initial grant of CRNM the extend it for another two years or so. Never heard of just a 60-day extension.

Hi @all,

has anyone tried this in Rio? I went today to the polica federal in the Aeroporto Santos Dumont and wanted to pay the fine (since today is my first overstay day) but the lady was very unfriendly and sent me away without any information what I should/can do. She just said I have to pay a fine in my country (Germany) which is obviously not true. Is there are name for this specific process I could refer to? Or a name of a law or something similar?

No, you just had the very bad luck of running into an unusually difficult person at the Polícia Federal. Your best bet is to go back at a different time of the day, when someone else might be on duty.

@abthree, I went today again and the officer was a bit nicer but they are still pretending here in Rio that what I want does not exist and that I can´t pay the fine in advance.
Does anyone know how the formula is called you will get when you paid the fine?

Sorry, I misunderstood your question. Some people have reported having to pay a fine for one day when they got an extension, and I thought that was what we were talking about.

No, you have to pay your overstay fine on departure; you can't book an overstay in advance, like a hotel.
