Pirarcicaba (Sao Paulo) I think I spelt that correctly

I've visited Piracicaba a few times. I had the same impression as in Americana/Santa Barbara, small city, relatively safe. My GF that is local from Americana agrees with this.

We have been to Piracicaba a few times also and it seems safe. It feels safer than Campinas to me, possibly because it is smaller.

    Is this a safe area to live?

Piracicaba is the wright way.  It's a Tupi-Guarani term ( Indigenous ), and it mean "where the fish stops".

It has just as much crime as any Brazilian midsize metro region. Not as bad as Sao Paulo or Rio, or Recife.Very unlike Cities in Mexico controlled by Narcos. Not the case at all.

The City has a strong economy. Hyundai has an assembly plant there, and Royal Shell PLC runs a biofuel subsidiary there ( Raizen ). There is a company that assembles Ethanol Plants the world over, and is headquartered there, if I recall correctly, the company name is Dedini.

Has two top tier universities Escola Superior de Agricultura Luiz de Queiroz (ESALQ) da Universidade de São Paulo (USP), which specializes in the Agri Business, and then

there Universidade Metodista.  Both have campus worth visiting. 

The city used to sponsor a Women's Pro Basketball Team ( Unimep ), and back in the 80's it was a powerhouse, featuring one of the all time best, Hortencia.

A good subject to start a conversation is talking about the XV de Piracicaba ( aka Nho Quim), the local pro-soccer team.   Folks there are provincian, but easygoing and good natured.

The Piracicaba River once was a dumping ground for Ethanol production runoff, I assumed this has been corrected, as the River defines the city, and it is a source of pride for "Piracicabanos" , in fact it has been inspirtation to Brazilian country music. 

The City is nicknamed as "Noiva da Colina", meaning Bride of the Hill.

The late Romeu Italo Ripoli was a excentric local figure (https://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romeu_Italo_Ripoli), and he used to singlehandedly run and mettle with the local pro soccer team ( XV de Novembro de Piracicaba ). Tall, always smoking raw cigarettes ( corn cob with smoked tobbaco ), always picking squabbles with the Pro-League as if suggesting the league, then run by an Archirival from Sorocaba, Alfredo Metidieri, was out to unfairly prejudice his team, through referees. 

The river is worth visiting.

@sprealestatebroker Really appreciate your reply, my girlfriend was from there and she just said it was ok and parked it there, there is a strong chance I will visit there in 2024.

I watched some video where it states Piracicaba being one of Sao Paulo's safests municipalities.

I have family there and Americanas. As long as you stay out of the favelas and don't get into anything ridiculously dumb, it's relatively safe.  Most of the crime is drug related; last Christmas we got to watch PF helicopters and drones flying out looking for a trafficker on the run. A day or two later, policia were looking for a drug addicted couple who'd killed their child. It's going to be that sort of thing in and around the area, no different than the rural US.
