New apartment construction questions

08/17/23 @antonioggriffin. When you say "an apartment room", do you mean a studio apartment, what Brazilians call a "kitnet" (pronounced "kitchenechee"), i.e., a single living room/bedroom with a bathroom and a kitchenette (hence the name)?

See sprealestatebroker's advice on buying properties that are still under construction. Short version -- he warns against it. At the very least, you should not buy from abroad. Be here, look at the place yourself before you put any money down.

My Brasilian wife and family says never buy from a constructor in Brasil, unless you can get the keys, clear title, and actually move in because it's ready.

Sure, you can hire the best lawyer who will cover you properly I'd imagine, but you're still going to have to make monetary advances and put money up as a down payment.

Now, my sister in law lives in Barra da Tijuca in Rio. For 5 years back in the early 2010 period, I watched the property owners across her street contribute money every month to finish the half completed 25 story condo they were stuck with, when the builder stole the money and went to Miami.

Prices in Brasil are dropping......a lot.

I would NEVER put money into an unfinished house or apartment. It’s a nightmare waiting for a place to happen.
