David mimic

Does anyone know a way I can get a cheap apartment around this address? My contact mostly left me out to dry and I wasn't this prepared

03/04/26 @David mimic.  If you need a room fast, you can find what is probably an inexpensive room that should be clean and safe at a hostel or a tourist hotel in or near Centro, Floripa, from US$15 a day and up on Hotels.com.

You can find a small apartment in the same area on AirBnB for ~US$1,000/mo. and up; rooms in shared homes will be less.

If, as you said in a different post, you're a student and you speak Portuguese, you may be able to rent a room in a "República", shared student housing, in the area; there are sites for that as well, but they're in Portuguese.

Getting a regular lease from a Brazilian landlord will be very difficult if you're not in Brazil on a resident visa.

03/05/26 @David mimic.  There is a municipal Tourist Service Center (Central de Atendimento ao Turista) in Box 79, North Wing of the Public Market of Florianópolis at R. Jerônimo Coelho, 60 - Centro, not far from you.  They should have English-speaking staff who may be able to make some recommendations.  If they're not open or have moved, you can contact them through email:

Ok I'll check it out. I did find a nice place that's close to the school and cheap. It's called "nihon capsula".

Still I'd like some kind of expat community to help me settle in. I've got a limited budget and I really don't want to go back to USA.

Thanks for your replies

Glad to hear that you found a place.  Sure thing about the replies.  Please keep us posted on your progress.  I hope that other expats in Santa Catarina reach out, but unfortunately we don't have a lot of members there, and the ones we do have tend to cluster in the beach resorts up the coast, not in the capital.
