Hello, thinking about coming to Baja

TravelWriter

I'm Deb. I'm a freelance writer so I am location independent (except for needing internet) and am free to live wherever I want. A bit over 6 years ago I gave up renting an apartment in LA and use that would-be rent money to live other places, aka travel.

I'm not necessarily looking to live someplace out of LA permanently at this point. I'd like to explore that reality.

As my connections are mostly in LA, I want LA to be relatively accessible so someone recommended La Mision. I've been to the area, but not for over a decade and never to consider living there. My searches here and elsewhere online didn't find anything helpful about this area and there is no mention of Baja in the Mexico options here. I thought maybe I'll learn more by joining.

Anyone here in the Baja area?

As a traveler, I want to get into a local population and have local experiences as well as learn about an area and cultures. However, in this case, I need to buckle down and write.

Writing is difficult for me when I am trying to pick up language and am busy learning a place, so in this case, I'd be using my little Spanish and improving it as I am there, but mostly I need to live a low-key English-speaking life. I only want a tiny place to live that feels clean and has a shower and cooking area. (I wouldn't turn down a mansion, a boat and swimming pool though.) I'm used to living out of a small backpack so I don't need much. I'm unsure whether I'd bring my car down; I have to ask my insurance company about that or buy Mexican auto coverage.

What I want to learn first is what communities or areas are options for me and what the expats there are like. I am 60 now although that shocks almost everyone to learn after they know me. I'm not into getting high, getting drunk, or playing games with the law.

I see most info from people in the Yucatan area.I have solo-traveled the Yucatan area and liked it. My reason for Baja is, as I said is to be near LA.

But, from PV lots of small towns in the Riviera Nayarit were there are expats community.

Bucerias, Sayulita, San Pancho (Francisco), Lo de Marcos, Rincon de Guayabitos, La Peñita de Jaltemba, Chacala.

My wife and I moved last August as fulltime residents in La Peñita de Jaltemba.

Thanks. Your area is much more appealing to me. If having my car in Baja isn't an option, this may be better. I am trying to avoid the flight part for now so I have the flexibility to go see people in CA.

But now you have me thinking about this! Are you easily able to give me an idea of what it would cost to rent a studio with a kitchen by the month starting in April?
