Alamosa, Sonora

Did you mean Alamos, Sonora ? Is there some reason that you chose Alamos or San Carlos ? Maybe family there ? Almos is sitting almost on the border of Sonora and Chihahua. Two areas that are known to be potentially dangerous, San Carlos isn't  better.

I have traveled quickly through those areas but only stayed over night.  I don't know if it's quiet there now because it's been a year or so since I went that way.  With two known cartel states side by side I would be very careful.

The other states with a cartel presence are the following: Chihuaha, Sinaloa, Durango, Coahuila, Baja California, Baja California Sur, Sonora, Mexico State, Aguascalientes, Tamaulipas, Quintana Roo, Michoacán, Jalisco, Colima, Guanajuato, Nayarit and Veracruz.

If Mexico feels it's one of the more dangerous states , I would pay attention.

Another concern is the thought that large amounts of expats equal safety. Some times it is the total opposite.

I could have posted something more current but I was using Mexican information not U.S. . As I said, it is clear you, living in New Mexico or Colorado, believe what you believe.

I am not trying to change your opinion at all, I'm just trying to provide a more balanced picture for others. I have lived here for years, and traveled through there many times. So I am talking about actual observation, and experience, not opinion. I live in Mexico.
