Recent security threats?

Hey all,

I'm returning to KSA soon after my initial 6month stint. However, there is much noise in the Western media about the embassies closing due to recent terrorist threats, as picked up by surveillance.

I'm just curious, have you noticed any increase in security in Riyadh or in compounds/DQ?

Cheers

saudi armed forces arent on much higher of an alert from what i hear. its more yemen i think.  the drone strike that happened recently was in planed so in case of retaliation violence
but the embassies are closed, right? very unusual for them to be closed for so long.

given everyone always attacks OUR embassies at the first hint of anything, who knows.  im sure they have a reason.  but if it was that bad, EU would close theirs also
EU is not typically muslim land, that's why. Saudi embassies are normally ok, in comparison with other countries. Saudi is closely allied with the US which can either make it a bigger threat or a safer place to live in terms of the power that is there, not to mention that it is the place of Mecca etc.

I was just curious if the atmosphere has noticeably changed in riyadh or not
everywhere the US is, GB is.

driving around today i havent noticed any increased anything

Nor did I.

Saudi has been one of the most successful countries in the world at countering terrorism within its own borders. The situation is not the same as it was 10+ years ago, where then they could BS anyone into getting into this stuff. Now people are more aware, and Authorities are much better equipped to monitor and neutralize these threats. Just so you would know it was Saudi's intelligence agencies that foiled the 2010 printer cartridge plot.

So if there is heightened security it is out of precaution, but there really is no need to worry in Saudi.
