setting up as a freelancer in Saudi Arabia

morlo71

Hi All

I was wondering if anyone has experience of setting up as a freelancer in Saudi Arabia, as a foreigner. I am considering a role in Riyadh where I would be a freelancer and looking for advice on how feasible that is and the process to follow. For example, do I need an Iqama before registering for a licence? Do I need a local agent to help?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Hello morlo71,

Welcome to Expat.com šŸ˜€

i think freelancing in Saudi Arabia is possible, but for foreigners it is not straightforward. Most freelance work requires a valid Iqama (residence permit) or operating under a legal business structure.

I recommend researching the regulations thoroughly and getting official advice before making any plans or accepting a job.

Thank you, Cheryl. I’m looking into a few options - Employer of Record, Vendor of Record and also setting up via a business license, but still need to know more. Appreciate the helpful response though.

Hopefully, someone with the information will be able to assist you soon.

All the best,
