Rental nightmares in Kuwait

Hello everyone,

Finding a place to live in Kuwait can be exciting, but it doesn’t always go as planned. From misleading listings and apartments that look nothing like the photos to strange landlords, hidden rules, unexpected roommates, or issues that only become apparent after moving in, expats can end up with some unforgettable stories.
If you have ever had a rental experience in Kuwait that went wrong, or simply a story you’ll never forget, we would love to hear about it:

Have you ever arrived at a rental that was completely different from the listing?

What is the strangest or most surprising thing you have discovered in a rental property?

Have you ever had to leave a place because it felt unsafe or unlivable?

Did you deal with pests, noisy neighbors, strange building rules, or difficult landlords?

What warning signs should newcomers watch out for before renting in Kuwait?

What advice would you give other expats to avoid rental disasters?

Share your insights to help fellow expats and soon-to-be expats.

Thanks,

Cheryl

One suggestion to newcomers is to check reviews online about buildings. Sometimes those reviews can steer you in the right direction. I moved into a building called Panorama Tower in Mahboula who own Mareena Towers Real Estate  and I didn't check the reviews. And I ended up in a very noisy apartment. The neighbors above me were very noisy and the management kept denying that anyone lived above me. And they also took me to court claiming wrongfully that I didn't hand over the keys just so they could collect extra money from me. Very immoral thing of them to do. If I had checked the reviews I would have seen some of the bad reviews and known that they are unethical. Later on when I wrote a review about them they seemed to have asked some tenants and non tenants to add fake reviews on there so my review and other reviews could get buried and they could still have 4.1 stars on Google map reviews. I know that the building manager used to hang out at the pool with 2 of the guys and one of the girls who put positive  reviews for them after I had placed my review. I think they have also asked some of their maintenance crews and some food delivery drivers to put good reviews for them too.
