I left bahrain without telling my employer

muslimbinsiddique

I left bahrain because my visit visa was expiring and company didn't paid for my work visa

I'll try to short the story,

Working on Visit Visa:

last month i started working with this company, i was on visit visa, but i didn't knew that i can't work on visit visa even my work visa is applied, they also took my passport, I almost worked there for a month and i was regularly checking for the visa status, for more than a week, it showed its ready for payment, i asked my manager and he just told me to focus on my work and never worry about it.

Not a Good Company:

But i started hearing stories from older employees that they are not paying salaries for 2 months, they use visit visa holders for one month and throw them away without paying any penny, i was really worried that i might get in trouble.

Police Caught me Working:

One day police, LMRA and NPRA came straight to my office, they asked me for my CPR which i obviously didn't had, i showed them my visit visa and they also asked me some questions about the work, how long I've been working and everything about company, etc they were super nice though, they told me i shouldn't be worried about anything, and It will only be trouble for the company,

Visit Visa about to expire:

Police told me its illegal to work until i get my work visa, and told me to wait at home until i get my visa and not to be present at work till then. I was really worried as i only had 6 days left until my visit visa was expiring, I stayed in home for 2-3 days and one day boss calls me to the office to talk, they told me that they can't pay for my visa now, they got 1000 dinars penalty, also their LMRA system is blocked and they have court cases on them, and all this will take them 10-15 days to resolve and only then they can pay for my visa and i can't work in the office, i told them if this is the situation, i should get back to my country before my visa expires and I'll come back when my work visa is ready, boss told me i cant exit bahrain, also my visa can't be extended, meanwhile they told me to work from home, i was not getting a good feeling from all this, as they could just not pay for my visa and i could become illegal in bahrain due to overstaying and could face penalties, and maybe other consequences that i don't know about, so i decided to leave bahrain before my visa expires as this was the safest option as i don't wanna go against any law in a foreign country

Getting back my Passport from Employer:

When police came to me, they asked me if i have any problem, i told them that they got my passport without my consent and also got a paper signed from me in a hurry and i didn't knew anything about it, he guided me that i should never sign anything without reading, but he told me not to worry, and i can get my passport, only one day before my visa was going to expire, i went to the police and told them my situation, they guided me that i must leave bahrain, otherwise i might not be able to leave bahrain easily, and they didn't got into much detail but guided me to leave before 12 in midnight to avoid any problem, i went to my office and asked them for my passport because i want to go to market for some laptop parts and might need that in case i get any checking, they surprisingly gave my passport easily, and i went to airport straight and got back to my country,  I got a lot of messages from them meanwhile,

Job offer once again:

Now I'm back in Pakistan, its been almost a week, and i get call from my boss, he asked me if they send me a work visa, am i willing to join them again? I told them yes i will join, He told me i didn't did good leaving bahrain without informing them, i told him i took a quick decision as my visa was expiring and this is what my lawyer told me to do, but now I'm worried, can they get me in trouble if i go back to them after all this? As i was reading in a Emirates forum that they can arrest me for not informing my employer, I don't really know, is it safe to go back for me? And what you think about all this experience?

First of all, thanks for sharing your story in detail.  This is EXACTLY what I keep warning people about when they come over on visit visa and start working.   Also, you were lucky i.e. LMRA did not fine you / deport you, otherwise, you would have never gotten a visa in Bahrain again (as so many people on this forum are in this situation).  In addition, you left before visa expiry, so that is good.

Don't worry about employer, they can do NOTHING to you.  The only weapon the employer has, if employee leaves, is to report him as absconding (After 15 days have passed).  BUT for that, the employee needs to be on a WORK visa.   You were on a visit visa so this does NOT apply to you.
