The 125'000 offer is (I suppose) a gross income. Count with the following mandatory payments to get a net income:

- Sozialabgaben (AHV, IV, EO) 5.15% and unemployment insurance 2.2% will be deducted from your income. Check details at e.g.  http://contaxa.ch/wordpress/wp-content/ … zahlen.pdf
- Pension scheme: depends on your employer
- Taxes: taxes differ from canton to canton and from town to town. At www.comparis.ch you can check how much you may expect to pay in the canton/town where you are going to live. Taxes are, in general, low compared to other countries.

Though taxes are low, costs of living are high in Switzerland. In particular, accomodation and health insurance (mandatory!) may dig quite a hole in your income. Check www.comparis.ch to find out what you may expect to pay for health insurance for you and your family in your canton; www.immoscout.ch may give you an impression of the costs of accomodation. When you are planning to buy a house: keep in mind that banks won't give you a mortgage for more than 80% of the value of the house. The good news is, that mortgage interest rates are relatively low in Switzerland.

I have no idea what kind of job you have been offered, but
in general, 125'000 CHF p.a. is a (very) good income to live on.

hi Twan, thanks for your reply and for taking the time to give me so many good reference sites.
The position is in the pharma world in quality assurnce in the Valais canton.
I'm beginning to realise that the offer is very good and wondering why I'm waiting to say yes!
