Make sure you choose a LOCAL  Solicitor to the area you wish to buy in as every region in Spain has different land laws. Obviously they need to be Spanish with good English to be able to communicate well to you. When you decide were you want to buy shop that area for recommendations.

As buyers’ representatives, we help people purchase property all over Spain, and one of the first things we recommend is that buyers appoint a lawyer who represents their interests only—not one recommended by the seller or selling agent.

An independent lawyer is there to protect you, carry out the necessary due diligence and make sure you fully understand what you’re buying before you’re legally committed.

Having the right team around you from the outset can make the whole buying process far smoother and help avoid some very expensive mistakes.

Two quick notes: (a) you don't strictly need a law firm/solicitor for a Spanish property purchase as it's based on a notary system, and you can deal directly with the notary or engage a gestor, and (b) you need your NIE to purchase a property in Spain, so it's usually helpful to get this sorted out sooner rather than later.
