Remote US job question

Hello Bulgaria!

Are any of you working US jobs remotely while living in Bulgaria? I was working with a US company remotely from Bulgaria when I first moved to Bulgaria, but my contract ended and the company I was with stopped hiring remotely. I am currently working in Bulgaria for a Bulgarian company, but I was wondering if any of you know of any remote jobs based in the US that I could work from while here in Bulgaria. If it helps I'm a US citizen and have a bank account and residence in the US.

Hey Pepito, I can't help but have met a few couples in Bulgaria who had remote US jobs ( very jealous :). It might be easier to just look at jobs in the U.S that are fully remote and try your luck.

As the salaries are generally a lot higher than in Europe, its a winning combo.

Hello zooldrool!

I appreciate the response. I have been searching for a US remote job that I can work from here, but most companies require I stay in the US while working for them. Finding a US based company that allows me to work while I'm here has become my white whale. Do you know what companies the people you have met that work from the US Work for? I would happily apply and hope for the best.

I don't. I got the impression that most were already working for their companies in the U.S and then negotiated with management to go remote.

There are (apparently) plenty of remote-only jobs. How easy it is to get one is a different story. The US ones probably pay more, but you can also work for remote employers in other countries. There are a bunch of freelancing platforms where you can do small/large jobs for specific payments, and they seem pretty popular, but I'd guess there's plenty of aggravation in winning these... plus your Indian/Chinese competitors who'll undercut you by 80%. Online tutoring (in-demand subjects like mathematics or software engineering/IT, otherwise the remote favorite of English) is also feasible, but also high on aggravation and low on reward (apart from the spiritual one, which doesn't pay the bills). Plus, let's face it, AI can do your job and my job easier/cheaper/quicker... so our only consolation is our Indian/Chinese competitors are also sat at home twiddling their thumbs and wondering if they should learn a bit of plumbing. Good luck!
