What is the cost of utilities in the new currency?

janemulberry

After our last couple of bills, when we aren't even living in the Bulgarian house full time yet, it's clear that our electricity bill will be more when we move. The rate per Kw isn't bad -- but when all the extra charges are added and then 20% VAT on top, it's more than we pay here.

I use electric heating a lot in the cold weather in Bg, and in the UK we have gas heat, so to be fair I need to combine the two bills to compare. But I'll also need to buy firewood in Bg once I've use up the timber from the old roof, so yes, utilities are going to cost more than I anticipated.

On the positive side, our water bill is far less, so that balances things out. And our council tax is a teensy-tiny fraction of what it is in the UK.
