Documents needed to renew residency card.

Melvyn Dawson

Hi, I have lived permanently I Bulgaria for 20 years and still have ask this.i have a bank account ,driving licence, residency permit etc. I can remember most of the documents I submitted for my last 5 year residency card but can someone who has renewed theirs recently tell me what they needed. I don't fancy going all the way to Haskovo and then having to go back because I forgot something.  I speak decent Bulgarian so won't be using a lawyer as I didn't do that 5 years ago.

After 20 years, I'd expect you to have your 10-year Permanent Residence card by now, rather than a 5-year card. But no matter, that's what you should probably get next renewal.

I think there's an application form, and I'm pretty sure they'll want your proof of address (notary act or rental contract/landlord declaration), and proof of health insurance (either a cheap policy, or your enrollment in NHIF with payment of regular contributions, or your S1 as a pensioner from elsewhere in the UK/EU, they might even accept an EHIC/GHIC). Not sure that money/income will be an issue with this renewal, but you may as well bring proof of financial means, just to be on the safe side.
