A Belgian employer will never subscribe to a health insurance for you.
What he is simply going to do is warn Belgian social security by stating that you will be under a Belgian contract. So with this, social security can create a record for you and your family. As a result, depending on the workload of social security, it will take +/- time. Because you will have to go to a mutual insurance company that will register you with a basic level of medical coverage. The level of coverage can be improved according to paid options that you decide.
But until full regulation, you will not be covered!
Because anyway, there is always a waiting period during which the mutual insurance will verify that your statements on your state of health as well as those of your family are accurate.
That's why I told you to take private insurance for you and your family.
If you live in Belgium, you must register for a mutual. This allows you to benefit from reimbursement of care in case of illness or hospitalization, or compensation in case of birth, incapacity for work ... You can register with the mutuality of your choice.
Membership in a mutuality is not a legal obligation. However, it is very important to affiliate. Indeed, it is only by being affiliated that you can benefit from the reimbursement of care in case of sickness or hospitalization, or even receive compensation paid by the mutuality in case of incapacity for work or maternity leave / leave paternity.
Some people, however, must not join a mutuality because they are "dependent" of a person who is the holder of mutuality. We must therefore determine who must register as a holder and who can claim to be "dependent".
To benefit from the benefits of compulsory health insurance and benefits, it is necessary to choose an insurer (mutual or Auxiliary Fund for sickness and disability insurance (CAAMI)).
Missions
Insurers pay, under the supervision of the National Institute for Disability Health Insurance (INAMI), the benefits of compulsory health insurance and benefits.

As such:
They grant in particular to their members, under certain conditions:
Intervention in medical and paramedical expenses;
compensation in case of incapacity for work or disability due to illness or accident in the private sphere;
a maternity allowance in case of pregnancy.
Officials (agents who work for the Federal State, the Communities, the Regions ...) and who are statutory (appointed) are subject to other procedures relating to compensation.
They represent their insureds in the various councils, committees and commissions set up at INAMI.
Supplementary insurance (AC)
Complementary insurance supplements the offer of compulsory insurance by offering various benefits and services (dental care, birth advantage, assistance abroad ...).
These benefits are specific to each mutuality and require the payment of a contribution.
Since January 1, 2012, this supplementary insurance is mandatory for mutuals and the payment of the contribution which gives entitlement to various services.
CAAMI is not a mutual. This Caisse is a public institution which has the same function as mutual societies and which provides the same compulsory insurance benefits. It does not offer supplementary insurance benefits and is not obliged to do so because of its status. It does not ask for the payment of a contribution.
