L Card conditions

Hello everyone,

I have a few questions regarding the eligibility requirements for obtaining an L card. Here is my situation:

3 years as a university student;

3 years working under a permanent employment contract (CDI) with a limited single permit.

I now hold a Type A residence permit (unlimited single permit), which is valid until July 2027.

According to my local municipality, I will be able to apply for the L card in February 2027.

My question is the following: I am going to lose my job in a few weeks, but my wife is still employed and holds a Type A residence permit (single permit) with a good salary.

Will I be eligible for the L card if I submit my wife's payslips as proof of sufficient financial resources, or is there a risk that the Immigration Office will refuse my application?

Thank you in advance for your help

For L card, it is up to the requestor to submit his own means of living. So its should be your own payslips. They don’t want you to fall under the State financial help. So try to find another job ASAP.

Is chomage considered as state financial help cause some say it doesnt only CPAS is considered as help

Thank you for your reply, but I found the following online:

To avoid becoming dependent on social assistance, you must demonstrate that you have stable, regular, and sufficient financial resources to support yourself and any dependent family members. These resources do not necessarily have to come from you personally; they may also be provided by a third party, provided that they are stable, regular, and sufficient. Read our article to learn how the Court of Justice assesses this issue.

The minimum amount of financial resources required for subsistence is set by Royal Decree. In practical terms, you must have a monthly income of €1,064, plus €355 for each dependent family member (2026 amounts). These amounts are indexed annually.
