Hello everyone,

Living in Taiwan provides countless occasions to browse local newspapers, listen to local radio stations or watch local TV shows. As everywhere else in the world, local media play a key role in informing the public.

What are the major media in Taiwan? Which one do you use on a regular basis?

How do you keep up with international issues (newspapers, radio, TV, Internet)?

I believe a lot of Taiwanese, especially younger people, read news online via mobile phone. But the problem with the news media in Taiwan is professionalism and dedication. Many news reports online as on TV are rewritten from existing sources as magazines, newspapers and the Internet.
In short, there is little original reporting in Taiwan but mostly second-hand news, which undermines accuracy.
Few Taiwanese news media have overseas reporters who cover news on-site. Most international news in Taiwan are sourced from major networks as CNN etc.
Sadly local TV news in Taiwan often brims of reruns, as if they lack reporters and news content to fill airtime.
Also it's obvious that Taiwanese TV news reporters are lazy and see their work as perfunctory, resulting in frequent coverage of mundane content as the F&B sector that calls for minimal intellectual input, expert knowledge.
For example I've never seen a news report on the lives of overseas Filipina workers in Taiwan and how many of their employers cheat the system to illegally hire, abuse such workers. Simply because such reporting takes genuine field work that can't be done behind a desk by surfing the Net.
