Citizenship aside, most living in the Philippines self fund for medical needs/hospital as private health insurers are like all insurers simply want your bucks then give you a hard time when it comes to a claim,,,,,, shareholders etc.

I allotted Au 50K in an investment account earning 5% rather than paying 5 or 10K a year to a private health insurer, you can do your own math but for us this works. We do have PhilHealth and that is cheap and knocks off 25/30% off the hospital bill.

I looked at it this way, in Australia we used to spend AU 8 to 10K per year with Medicare,,,,,, part of our taxes and private intermediate health cover and decided when I retired at 59 and moved to the Philippines that health insurance was a waste of money as healthcare here in a private hospital is far cheaper than Australia and most western countries. In that time (6 years) we have saved AU 40 to 50K and my "so far one visit to hospital for 2 days and nights with multiple tests and specialists" left us out of pocket a little over AU 1K.

PhilHealth I recommend given the cost and benefits.

Our Au 50K  with interest and not paying the maggots is now worth over AU 100K and simply sits there until needed. Hope I die in my sleep.
